The Superiority of Laser Annealing

Marking stainless steel requires a specific approach to preserve corrosion resistance. Graphie uses laser annealing, a process specifically adapted for stainless steel alloys such as 304 and 316. 
 

Unlike mechanical engraving or deep etching; which removes material and can expose the steel to corrosion; annealing uses a focused laser beam to locally heat the surface. This controlled thermal reaction induces oxidation that turns the surface deep black without removing material. 
 

  • Corrosion Resistance: Because the chromium oxide layer remains intact, the marked area retains its full resistance to rust and oxidation. 
     

  • Surface Integrity: The resulting mark is smooth and flush with the surface, eliminating crevices where bacteria, dirt, or chemicals could accumulate; making it ideal for sanitary environments and outdoor equipment. 
     

  • High Contrast: The process produces a permanent black laser marking with excellent readability against the natural stainless steel finish, superior to traditional stamping or ink-based methods.
