LASER ENGRAVING

Industrial Laser Engraving Services

While laser marking alters surface color, Laser Engraving creates physical depth. Graphie provides precision engraving services for applications requiring permanent identification carved into the material itself.

We specialize in two distinct engraving categories: Deep Etching for heavy-duty stainless steel components and Lamacoid Production for standard industrial labeling. Based in La Pocatière, we support manufacturers with identification solutions that resist abrasion, chemicals, and time.

Lamacoids: The Standard for Industrial Labeling

Lamacoids (2-ply plastic tags) are the most common form of identification for electrical panels, machinery, and safety signage. We manufacture custom lamacoids by engraving through a top layer of colored plastic to reveal a contrasting color underneath.

  • Custom Shapes & Sizes: Unlike traditional rotary engraving, our lasers cut the perimeter and engrave the text in a single pass. This allows us to create specific shapes (circles, rectangles, or custom profiles) to fit your control panels perfectly.

  • High Visibility: Available in a wide range of high-contrast color combinations (Black/White, Red/White, Yellow/Black, etc.) to ensure readability and safety compliance.

  • Applications: Ideal for push-button tags, electrical panel directories, warning labels, and asset tags.

Stainless Steel: Depth for Extreme Durability

For heavy-duty applications, we use high-power fiber lasers to ablate (vaporize) stainless steel, producing deep, tactile marks.

  • Wear Resistance: Because information is engraved directly into the metal; typically between 0.001" and 0.005" deep; the mark remains legible even if the surface becomes worn, scratched, or painted over time.

  • Post-Process Visibility: Deep engraving is ideal for parts that will undergo subsequent operations. The engraved characters remain visible even after heavy polishing, passivation, or coating.

Texture and Functional Surface Modification

Beyond alphanumeric identification, laser engraving allows precise modification of stainless steel surface texture for functional purposes.

  • Grip and Friction Control: We can engrave textured or knurled patterns onto handles, levers, and tools to improve grip without additional mechanical machining.

  • Oil Retention Patterns: For mechanical sliding components, laser-engraved micro-patterns can help retain lubricants, reducing wear and extending service life in moving assemblies.

Engraving vs. Laser Marking: Selecting the Right Process

Because Graphie offers both Laser Marking (Annealing) and Laser Engraving, selecting the appropriate process depends on the material and application.

  • Choose Lamacoids (Engraving) for electrical identification, color-coded tags, and non-conductive labeling.

  • Choose Stainless Engraving when physical depth and extreme abrasion resistance are required on metal parts.

  • Choose Laser Marking when a smooth, dark surface mark is required on stainless steel (e.g., for sanitary or medical environments).
